To mark International Guide Dog Day, the team at Specsavers Newlands hosted a community event that saw spirits lifted across the store and closer to a grand total to name a guide dog.

The locally owned and run store has been working to support Guide Dogs UK, hosting an in-store event that gave customers the opportunity to name a guide dog and enter a raffle to win a free pair of glasses. The team successfully raised £72.75 throughout the day.

Scott Craig, supervisor at Specsavers Newlands store, says: ‘As eyecare professionals, we see firsthand the impact that vision impairment has on daily life therefore our partnership with Guide Dogs UK is incredibly close to our hearts.’

Specsavers Newlands knows the meaning of community spirit. Every penny donated to the store charity bucket has brought the community one step closer to seeing a ‘locally named’ hero in a harness which requires a minimum £2,500 donation.

‘We didn’t just raise money; we’re helping raise a lifeline for people in the community,’ adds Scott. ‘Every donation makes a difference so whether it was through a small donation at our till or entering our raffle, it all adds up and helps us to change a life.’
