More than 140 clinicians from Specsavers recently gathered for a contact lens event focused on elevating clinical excellence and exploring the latest advancements in ocular health.

The exclusive event featured keynote speaker Dr Debarun Dutta, a well-respected clinician, researcher, and educator in contact lenses, as well as the President-Elect of the British Contact Lens Association (BCLA). Specifically, he is an expert in contact lenses, dry eye disease, and ocular infection.

The BCLA is recognised by optometrists, ophthalmologists, and the optical industry as a leading authority and community for contact lenses and anterior eye health. Dr. Dutta is also one of the examiners for ABDO in their Contact Lens Assessments.

After reading Dr. Dutta's article in Optometry Today, Michael O’Kane, Specsavers Cameron Toll and Morningside store director, reached out to him to collaborate on a clinical presentation for Specsavers, ensuring alignment with corporate business and product plans.

The event was successfully promoted and hosted by Michael, who introduced Dr. Dutta, and facilitated the Q&A after the overall presentation.

Dr Dutta also conducted a comprehensive review of Specsavers’ current contact lens portfolio, reinforcing the high-quality of materials and products provided to customers daily.

Experts from Specsavers stores across Scotland were able to attend the event to hear from Dr Dutta himself.

‘Investing in evidence-based education and professional development is central to delivering exceptional customer outcomes,’ says Michael.

‘We are incredibly grateful to Dr. Dutta for sharing his world-class knowledge and insights with our teams. At Specsavers, we are passionate about continuous learning and ensuring our customers receive the very best products, care and value to suit their individual lifestyles.’

The event was made possible through the dedicated support of key coordinator Steve Gardiner and Faron Gribben. Additionally, the success of the event underscores Specsavers’s ongoing commitment to clinical excellence and professional development.
