Getting into the spirit of fundraising for a worthy cause, the team at Specsavers Worcester Park hosted a family-friendly cake bake to raise funds for the British Heart Foundation.

The team at the locally owned and run store donned their British Heart Foundation T-shirts and mingled with customers as they served up homemade treats to support the charity’s work.

Jamil Nanda, store director, says: ‘We wanted to bring our community together to support a fantastic charity while also highlighting the important link between eye health and overall wellbeing. Many people don't realise that an eye test can help detect signs of underlying health conditions, including high blood pressure.

‘We’re very grateful to the support and generosity of our customers, and our team who helped make this fundraising event such a success, raising a total of £320 for the charity.’

The British Heart Foundation is the biggest independent funder of research into cardiovascular disease in the UK. Its vision is of a world where everyone has a healthy heart for longer. Currently, every three minutes someone in the UK dies from a cardiovascular disease, so it touches the lives of many people.

Specsavers Worcester Park has been serving the community since 2017, providing access to eye and hearing services, including enhanced eye care services for conditions such as red eyes, dry eyes, flashes and floaters.

Specsavers recommends that adults and children should have an eye test at least every two years, or more often if advised by their optician. The NHS will cover the full cost of an eye test for anyone who qualifies. All children under 16, as well as those under 19 in full-time education, are entitled to an NHS funded eye test.

Store opening times are Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm, 9am to 5.30pm on Saturday and 9.30am to 5pm on Sunday.
