The team at the Specsavers Trongate store marked the month of Ramadan by coming together for an iftar, resulting in an £800 boost for Glasgow South East (SE) Foodbank.

Colleagues gathered at the renowned local restaurant Kebabish, using the evening as an opportunity to support those facing food insecurity in the city and raising £400.

Recognising the vital work carried out by SE Foodbank, Specsavers committed to matching every pound raised, bringing the total donation to £800.

Madiha Azhar, retail director at Specsavers Trongate, says: ‘We wanted to celebrate this time as a team but also ensure that our celebrations had a lasting impact on our neighbours. Glasgow SE Foodbank provides an essential lifeline for many families, and we are incredibly proud of our team for their generosity in reaching our goal.’

The donation comes at a critical time for local foodbanks, which often sees increased demand during the spring months. The £800 contribution will go directly toward providing emergency food parcels and support services for individuals and families in the South East of the city.

Qamar Iqbal, optometrist director, adds: ‘Breaking our fast together at Kebabish was a wonderful way to build team spirit, but knowing that our meal resulted in such a significant donation makes it even more meaningful. Supporting the local foodbank is a cause close to our hearts, especially during a month which focuses so heavily on charity and empathy.’
