Award-winning homebuilder Cala Homes (West) recently visited a school in Polmont to talk to children about the homebuilding industry and educate them about the dangers of playing in and around construction sites.
St. Margaret’s Primary School enjoyed an interactive session which covered the history of building houses as well as the variety of fantastic and varied career opportunities within the industry, but there was also a stark warning about the dangers of going into construction areas unsupervised.
Louise Dunn, Marketing Manager and Marton Wilson, Site Manager, visited the primary 4 & 5 pupils to discuss how Cala keeps its nearby development Lathallan Grange safe and shared a video specially created by Cala to help highlight some of the hidden dangers that can be found on building sites.
The initiative is a core part of Cala’s Community Pledge, showcasing the housebuilder’s commitment to bring meaningful investment to its local communities.
Louise said: “The Stay Safe, Stay Away programme is designed to spread the message to children that construction sites are not somewhere to play around. Although we ensure all Cala sites are secure, its important young people know the dangers of entering a construction area, so they don’t put themselves or their friends in harm’s way.
“The message is a serious one however we hope that our animated film and presentation are a great way to get children to relate to the topic.
“Another aim of this initiative is to bring to life at grassroots level how new homes are developed and the important role that housebuilders play in creating sustainable new communities. It was great to see the children engaged with the presentation; they had lots of great questions!”
Ashley Johnston, Depute Headteacher at St. Margaret’s Primary School, added: “We greatly appreciated Cala Homes' recent session on building site safety with our pupils.
“As a teacher, I know it's crucial to ensure that children are aware of the potential hazards around building sites, and Cala Homes did an excellent job of conveying this message in a way the children were engaged with.”
