A Midlothian primary school has enhanced its outdoor play area with new playground markings, thanks to funding support from a local housebuilder.
The contribution from Cala Homes (East) forms part of the homebuilder’s Craighall Village Community Pledge, an initiative that goes above and beyond planning expectations by supporting local groups in the area through donations and volunteering, and by providing educational resources about the homebuilding industry.
Danderhall Primary School used the funding to refresh its playground with new outdoor games markings including hopscotch and snakes and ladders, helping to create engaging active play areas for children of all ages.
The wider local community has also benefitted as Cala has installed three benches in the nearby village of Newton in association with Danderhall & District Community Council.
Kirsty Smith, class teacher at Danderhall Primary School, said: “The support from Cala Homes (East) through its Community Pledge initiative has been enthusiastically received from the pupils.
“It has made an incredible difference to the playground, and the children have made great use of the games markings already. As we approach spring and hopefully better weather, I’m confident that there will be even more games played.
“It’s great to see the children increasing their physical activity and playing together which encourages social skills like teamwork and turn-taking whilst sparking creativity. The donation from Cala is very much appreciated.”
Elaine Carrigan, Sales and Marketing Director at Cala Homes (East), added: “Each Community Pledge initiative is in place to support the wider community in which we are building so it is a delight to see the benefits.
“We recognise how important outdoor play is for children as they grow up, so we are proud we were able to provide funding to Danderhall Primary School to refresh its playground.
“Meanwhile the benches in Newton will provide areas of rest, offering a space for locals to take time out to sit down with friends or simply take a quiet moment for themselves while out and about in the community.”
Cala’s Community Pledge represents an evolution of work the homebuilder has been doing for many years within the communities in which they build, ensuring that they support the local areas and people who live there.
